About the Book of Lamentations

The Book of Lamentations (איכה) is the scroll of five elegies traditionally read on Tisha B’Av, mourning the destruction of Jerusalem and the First Temple. Authored by the prophet Jeremiah, four of its five chapters are alphabetical acrostics, and its opening word, eichah (alas), gives the book its Hebrew name. In the Nach Yomi cycle it falls on Days 616-620 (October 20-24, 2027).
